Merry Ho & A Ho Ho Ho

We didn’t forget.

We know what day it is.

Tuesday.

Heh heh. (lame, lame, lame)

A Very Merry Christmas to our Friends and Neighbors celebrating today.

The most unfortunate aspect of living in Israel at Christmas time?

Those of us who USED to get the holiday off in the States or Europe even though we may not have necessarily celebrated it can no longer count it as a bonus vacation day.

It’s business as usual.

No lazing around the house, going to the JCC to swim laps & shoot hoops & no meeting up with the Goldbergs or Cohens for Chinese & a movie. Regular day. Work. School. Toil & drudge.

*sigh*

Give and take. Give and take.

Today’s Hebrew press ran a story on former Liverpool footballer Avi Cohen and his son Tamir who, 28 years later, has been picked up by Bolton.

Never mind that they’re a winning family.

Never mind that Cohen junior has a promising future.

Never mind that father & son are making Israel proud.

LOOK AT THE BOY! KWAAAAAA!!!

A bit of awright, i’nt he?

Cheap Cuts

Know how wherever you go in the U.S. you can find those really really really low price budget haircutting salons?

The ones you go to when you’re between jobs, hard pressed for cash, watching a budget or just flat out C-H-E-A-P?

Guess what? Israel has them too. In the form of student stylists over at the Shuki Zikri salon schools. The actual Shuki salons will run you upwards of $100 depending on what you’re in for. But the students? C-H-E-A-P. 35 shekels (less than $10) c-h-e-a-p.

The Big Felafel blogged about it

Once they shampoo and massage your head (my favorite part), they take you to a chair, pull out their handy dandy ghetto haircutting kit, and start sectioning off your hair, about 40 times until you beg them to move on to the cutting part. Maybe that’s what they focused on in their classes that day?! And not to worry, if they mess up and you notice it’s a little uneven, their teacher comes over and fixes everything.

No more excuses for letting the hair get shabby!

Toilet Revenge

Think it’s funny or amusing to block the toilet with toilet tissue? Think again, say school administrators of a Tel Aviv suburb high school.

To teach a lesson to students who stuffed toilets so full of paper that repairman had to be called in for costly fixes, the higher ups decided: No more toilet paper in the stalls. Need some tissue? It’s now on the allotment plan. Ask (the school secretary) and you shall receive.

“It’s humiliating,” one mother told Hebrew press. “What happens if a kid has a bad stomach and needs to go more frequently than usual?”

According to another mother, rather than go through the ordeal of having to ask for tissue, kids are putting off their needs until they arrive home.

Oh well…Logic dictates: So don’t stop up the toilet..

Geeeee-yore-ge is planning his first ever visit here next month to add some kick-start to that Annapolis Summit thing that got started last month.

Accordingly, this cartoon showed up in the Hebrew version of Haaretz. The translation:

11:00 Traffic Jam at the Knesset
