The Yogurt Wars

February 4, 2008 - 12:30 PM by

Say what you want about this tiny country but one thing that its industry does really really well is dairy.

Yogurt, cottage cheese and Middle Eastern white cheese spreads are creamy & tasty.

The country’s reigning dairy giants are Strauss and Tnuva.

Now Tara, makers of the “YOU” line of dairy products targeting 30 to 40 year-old female consumers, is trying to elbow in alongside the other two .

Tara has begun marketing a new import, Muller Yogurt.

Yogurt, you ask? Indeed. It’s a staple in most Israeli homes. And Israelis like to sample what other people “out there in the world” are having for breakfast and snacks.

So Strauss imports Danone under its label and Tnuva brings in Yoplait.

Tara’s taking a shot with the Bavarian rooted Muller.

Good luck Tara.

See you at the checkout aisle.

  2. They were handing out Muller yogurt samples this morning at work. Blech–don’t bother. Stick with Danon and Yoplait, way better.
