Beating the System
Last month we wrote about workers at a Tel Aviv branch of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Company striking for better pay and terms.

See that guy with the megaphone? His name’s Alon-Lee Green & he led the protests.
According to Hebrew press, Alon and his team of strikers beat “the man” by negotiating better terms for all and scoring an unprecedented perk: the coffee chain’s 300 workers in Israel’s 14 branches will receive a percentage of company earnings.
Now Alon is on the lecture trail talking to others about unionizing and effective protest. His tips:
1) Make sure the organization is headed by a charismatic leader
2) 1/3 of workers need to sign on to create a union
3) A union can be registered with the Histadrut or Tel Aviv University’s Legal/Social Clinic
4) Management will be looking for infractions by union members so “watch your back”
5) Fear not management threats of lawsuits
6) Protests that damage a company’s image are good
7) Strikes are effective weapons
8) Don’t negotiate alone. Let the pro’s i.e. attorneys go at it

Is Israel becoming like France?
It always has been, in my opinion, in terms of “the proles”. But they don’t yet have the art of the strike down to the science the French do.
He is a bolshevik. It is not the function of a union to threaten a company.
But given Israel’s unfortunate socialistic statist type history where economics is concerned I am not surprised the company buckled to threats – I venture that Israeli law is not exactly friendly to companies.
Mr Green is a dangerous individual because should he succeed, and companies take defensive measures, jobs will be lost or not created.
