Just Desserts
Passover and Dessert.
Nope. They definitely Do Not go together. Anyone who has ingested a sampling of Aunt Gertie’s layered chocolate matzoh cream cake (sic) can testify to that.
But we’re living in sophisticated times, we are. And to prove it, Haaretz (Hebrew) has collected a whole slew of recipes to help the observant add that necessary “kick” to holiday dining. Here’s a sampling for the kitchen aficionados out there:
Hot Banana Soup with Marzipan and Dried Strawberries
4 peeled bananas cut into pieces
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp fresh thyme
Dash of black pepper
For Marzipan:
1 kilo peeled almonds
1 & 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp rose water
3 Tbsp Amaretto
To Garnish:
1 cup blueberry juice
50 grams dried strawberries
Thyme leaf
Instructions:
Mix bananas, powdered sugar, thyme & black pepper in food processor and cook in microwave for 2 minutes.
Crush almonds in food processor & mix together with powdered sugar, cinnamon, rose water and liqueur Heat in saute pan for 15 minutes until thick. Cool and roll into small balls.
Mix strawberries with blueberry juice.
To serve, pour banana mix into bowl, add three marzipan balls and decorate with strawberry sauce and a sprig of Thyme.
ENJOY!
