You Know You’ve Reached the Mid-East When…

This “bring it crashing home” blog entry from homefrid ocean:

We are driving Route 90 up toward Tiberias, pulling girly hip-hop through the rental car on the way to Amirim. And then, just as the song changes, there are the sheep. Directly in front of us, a flow of about one hundred sheep is arranging itself in sets of two. The stronger ones at the front, the thinner-haired ones toward the back, their bums splashed with orange paint, the line of sheep begins to hold up a few lanes of cars, including a large tourist bus. As our music rises ridiculously – oh the glamorous, oh the flossy, flossy – the driver of the tourist bus waves at the line of sheep-backs shouting “Yalla, nu!” and encouraging them along with his hands. One car darts forward from behind us – poppin’ champagne, livin’ the life – and nearly hits the few stragglers at the end of the line – g-la-m-o-r-o-u-s – and the ridiculous van rolls on.
