Is the siren on at 10? my colleague asked with a sense of urgency when she heard my voice on the other end of the phone.

Yes, I replied. It is.

It’s my first time and I want to go down to the street and see it. Can I call you back in about 20 minutes?

Your first time for the siren? Wow. Go. Go. I urged.

There’s something powerful beyond words about the country shutting down the evening before and standing in silence the day of Holocaust Remembering.

A dozen years here and it still impacts.
