Getting Mashed in Tel Aviv

MashBash Tel AvivLast night, Mashable, the world’s number one news site for Social Media and one of the most popular blogs in the world, held a “MashBash” party at the bar Uptown on the Tel Aviv port. It was seriously one of the hottest tickets in town with over 800 CEOs, investors, marketers, advertisers, etc in attendance. The free open bar didn’t hurt either, though I was too busy chatting to take advantage of it. Sigh.

There were several start ups from the social media sphere demonstrating their ideas and even actively recruiting from some of the most creative minds the Israeli internet scene has to offer. I’ve always found a lot of value in these networking events – they are never a waste of time. The attendees are always open, uber-friendly and I always find a nice balance of playing matchmaker and promoting my own projects. Last night I met nearly every Israeli on twitter who I have for the past few months only known by name and avatar. Meeting “Internet friends” is always a bit strange for me. People can easily determine who they want to be by “creating” their own online personalities, but I am happy to report that everyone was as friendly as their virtual persona. And no one tried to kill me.

For more about Tel Aviv’s Mashbash check out this post on Jewneric. I’ll be keeping my eye out for other blog posts about this event and will update this post accordingly.

  2. I didn’t get to meet you! I kept seeing you with fellow Tweeters and kept being pulled away. That’s what happens when you end up knowing 700 of the 800.

  4. I have a feeling they’ll be an opportunity in the near future. The Israeli twitterati seem like a nice bunch so I reckon something will happen soon.
