		<description>Very true.  Growing up in the US as a religious Jew, I never ate sufganiyot.  I always wondered about the sufganiyot phenomenon in Israel, and figured it was simply an &quot;Israelism&quot;.  That is until my wife&#039;s family from/in the US (2nd generation) served &quot;bumeulos&quot;, the Ladino term (Judea-spanish-turkey/rhodes...) for fried donuts (sufganiyot), on Chanukah (click!).  Indeed, a Sephardic v. Ashkenazik variation of the same oil theme using local ingredients available to them.  I remember my grandfather&#039;s stories on what they went through to get decent bread/flour in eastern europe (potatoes, apparently were not an issue).</description>
