While I am not a member of the IDF and have no family members in the Israeli army and I am certainly not a military expert, I believe that exchanging terrorists for Gilad Schalit only encourages more kidnappings of Israeli soldiers. In my humble opinion, the IDF should have resorted to military strikes as a mechanism for bringing Gilad home to Israel. If Israel showed that they met business and there would be serious consequences seen at no other time if Hamas harmed Gilad or any other IDF soldier, Hamas would be reluctant to kidnap any more soldiers. By negotiating with Hamas, that only legitimizes them which in turn raises the probability of more kidnappings although I hope that I am wrong.

As you rightly realize, now that your son is in his "greens", he is at risk for kidnapping. And that's why Zahal asks that the soldiers not put pictures of themselves in uniform up on the web (I saw your other post). My daughter also got her Kit bag, etc, recently, and those were the instructions she was given.
