In my humble opinion, the IDF should have resorted to military strikes as a mechanism for bringing Gilad home to Israel. If Israel showed that they met business and there would be serious consequences seen at no other time if Hamas harmed Gilad or any other IDF soldier, Hamas would be reluctant to kidnap any more soldiers.
