Jeff Beck settles in Israel

If you’re walking around Tel Aviv next week and you hear the muffled sounds of a band with a guitar player who sounds like he’s from Mars, you may have stumbled upon the secret rehearsal space of legendary British guitarist Jeff Beck.

In a 180 degree turn from some other artists who chose to cancel shows in Israel this year, Beck, considered one of the triumvirate of 60s rock guitar gods along with Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, is arriving in Israel a few days before his two shows here on October 4th and 5th (at Reading 3 in Tel Aviv and the Caesearea Amphitheater respectively), to spend some time working out the kinks with his band as they get set to launch a lengthy tour.

Not that his all-star band – consisting of Narada Michael Walden on drums, Rhonda Smith on bass and Jason Rebello on keyboards – need much whipping into shape, but Beck is known to be a perfectionist. And on his first apppearances in Israel in his illustrious five-decade career, he wants to make sure everything is ‘fix,’ as they say here.

“We’ve chosen to rehearse in Israel and settle there for a few days, rather than rehearse in England and get off the plane – we want to climatize ourselves,” he said last week, evidently unaware of the loaded word ‘settle’ has picked up in local jargon.

The location of the rehearsal space hasn’t been disclosed for obvious reasons, but a lot of people will likely be walking around the Tel Aviv area next week with their ears to the ground.

  2. Jeff Beck is the greatest living electric guitarist especially when he plays live. He’s revered by Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, David Gimour, Brian May, Joe Satriani and was greatly admired by the great, late Les Paul. Please attend this concert. Beck’s awesome !

  6. I’m glad he wasn’t taken in by the propaganda as so many other stars have been.
