Belly dancing to peace

There she is...

President Obama may be hoping for some better news in the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, but a different kind of olive branch is being offered by a mysterious Israeli belly dancer who’s been showing up in the West Bank.

According to recent reports in Yediot Achronot, the benevolent belly dancer, called “the Jewish dancer”, has turned up at many wedding celebrations, becoming the highlight of the night. No one knows her name or other details, but she reportedly charges NIS 1,600 (about $425) for every 15 minutes of performance. Hey, peaceful dancing doesn’t come cheap.

What is known is that she’s Israeli and Jewish — although no one reports how that much is known — and given her star status, West Bank families are flocking to hire her. Palestinian website PNN also wrote about the mystery woman, discussing whether her presence in the West Bank is legitimate or controversial.

Hey, it’s gotta be better than firing guns at a celebration, no? Here’s hoping we find out more about our mysterious belly dancer.
