Israelis in the news

A shoe photographed by Ilan Rubin for Marie Claire

Sometimes, it feels like Israelis are everywhere. Was just thumbing through the March issue of Marie Claire magazine — a hand-me-down, because, yes, it’s getting a little young for me — and noted the presence of not just one, but two Israelis in the issue.

First off, photographer Ilan Rubin shot springtime accessories and answered questions about his favorite actress, app, spring trend, art exhibit and snack. Disappointingly, Israel didn’t figure into any of the answers, but he never forgets his native land, even though he moved to Israel twenty years ago. According to one of his former assistants, “the guy is a still life genius.”

Next up in Marie Claire was designer Alber Elbaz, another local boy living abroad, but this one is in Paris, where he heads fashion house Lanvin, and likes to talk about his succulent roast chicken. Sounds like he’d like to be able to eat one with his family in Tel Aviv, but is resigned to eating at home in Paris.

In the meantime, some examples of these native sons’ work:
