Foto Friday – Down south with Dan Haimovich

November 16, 2012 - 5:00 PM by

Photojournalist Dan Haimovich has been down in Israel’s south this week, documenting the events of Operation Pillars of Defense as they unfold. He’s graciously agreed to share a few images from an album posted on his Facebook page, entitled Code Red.

The deserted streets of the town of Sderot…

After the “Code Red” alert sounds, Sderot residents have about 15 seconds to run for shelter…

Rockets descend and are — at least 85% of the time — intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system…

The effects of shelling in the town of Kiryat Malachi, in which three people were killed yesterday, are twofold: there is physical damage, mental and emotional trauma…

And an onslaught of visits to the scene by politicians…

And the press.

The Code Red photo album contains images of the Kiryat Malachi bombing that are beautifully composed but disturbing in their stillness and sadness. These and others can be viewed on Haimovich’s Facebook page and his Code Red photo album.

By the way, Haimovich, his colleagues and hopefully the general public as well are making use of a Code Red app for iPhone developed by Kobi Snir and available via iTunes. Download it free-of-charge and stay safe. Shabbat Shalom.
