According to the World Press Photo Organization, the exhibitions are “a showcase for creativity in photojournalism and a platform for developments in the profession, part of World Press Photo’s aim of encouraging and stimulating the work of press photographers around the world.

“The show also attracts a broader public and, because of the wide-ranging focus of the contest, forms an eyewitness record of world events from the previous year.”

Founded in 1955, World Press Photo is run as an independent, non-profit organization headquartered in the Netherlands. The exhibition is officially opened this past April in Amsterdam and will continue to tour until March 2013, visiting almost 100 cities in 45 countries.

Local Testimony’s curator, Moran Shuv, states, “Dozens of photographers from Israel and abroad are participating in both exhibits, presenting a sequence of events in selected pictures from the past year on topics related to war and peace…
