Weather Frenzy
I dunno about you, but where I grew up – in Ohio – winters were the real deal.
Snow carpets, wind chill factors frigid enough to make you gasp, frozen car starters refusing to spark, neighborhood streets transformed into ice skating rinks, no-school snow days and cars fish-tailing in slush and sleet.
All that stuff still goes on back in Ohio. I’m just not there to live it anymore.
So whilst supping with a group of colleagues last night, I listened with fascination as one person at the table relayed “weather prep horrors” she has been witnessing among Israelis colleagues. You see, the media has instilled terror in the minds of the population over AN IMPENDING WINTER STORM…

Yesterday morning I’m at work and offices are empty. Lights out, nobody home. People figured if the storm was hitting later that evening, they might as well not come in to work at all. And heck, they didn’t send kids to school either. Everybody stayed at home to wait for the storm.
We’re not talking winter snow. This was Armageddon.
Women came to work with Tupperware containers and went down to the cafeteria to fill them up. Just in case they didn’t have enough food for the storm. Forget war. It’s supposed to SNOW!!! Stockpile and barricade!
People people people. Try winter in Ohio. Tsk tsk tsk.
World’s Oldest?
If her claim is accurate, then northern Israel resident Mariam Amash is the record holder for oldest person alive: She says she’s 120.
A resident of the predominantly Arab town of Jisr az-Zarqa, Amash will beat out The Guinness Book of Records current title holder, 114-year-old Edna Parker of Shelbyville, Indiana, if background checks confirm her as a century plus two decades old.
“I eat, I drink, and I take showers. I hope to keep going for another 10 years,” Amash was quoted as saying in this BBC story.
Mrs. Amash has 10 children, 120 grandchildren, 250 great-grandchildren, and 30 great-great-grandchildren, according to relatives.

Despite her true-life rehab stint and complications surrounding entry to the U.S., Ms. Winehouse scored big at last night’s Grammy awards.
She picked up five of the six awards she was nominated for including Best Record and Song of the Year.
According to the Grammy website, Ms. Amy “blew the roof off” with a live-via-satellite from London performance and acceptance speech.
